1st Declaration of Principles

Policy Statement Chapati Design We at Chapati Design Berlin are an ecologically aware, transparent and sustainable fashion company and are intensively engaged in the integral conditions of our textile production.

We critically question conventional productions, because especially in the garment industry human rights and environmental standards are often disregarded. This is not acceptable for us. We therefore distance ourselves emphatically from these practices and contribute to breaking through structures that are harmful to the environment and inhuman to human beings in order to promote the necessary change in the textile industry.

We create sustainable, fair and ecologically justifiable fashion. To this end, we examine the entire production chain through which our products pass. In doing so, we focus primarily on social and ecological, but also economic aspects.

We obtain our goods almost exclusively from India. We take our corporate responsibility very seriously and are aware of possible risks that can arise from complex supply chains. It is therefore a matter for us that the basic principles of the ILO core labour standard and the OECD guidelines are observed during all production steps and that we make our supply chain completely transparent.

We at Chapati Design Berlin, together with our main producer Saran Exports, explicitly speak out against sexual harassment of women at work. Unfortunately, discrimination against women in India is nevertheless often commonplace. In order to actively counteract this grievance, Saran Exports has been a member of the Dream Girl Foundation since 2018. The Dream Girl Foundation is one of the most important non-profit organisations that works for the future prospects of disadvantaged girls.

To ensure that every Chapati cotton product meets our high standards of social responsibility and sustainability, all participating companies in the entire supply chain are certified according to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), just like ourselves. In our summer collections we also use LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose, which has been awarded the EU Ecolabel. From the extraction of raw materials, through production and distribution, this has an environmentally friendly ecological balance and complements our sustainable product range.

In addition, we want to make our contribution to a fair and sustainable fashion industry by constantly rethinking and critically questioning our concepts. In doing so, we pay attention not only to our production abroad, but also to local business operations. For example, we use only green electricity for all our business premises.

It is also important for us as a company to save as much electricity and water as possible. We therefore encourage all our employees to pay attention to this.

What additional work can we do in the future and how can we become even better?

Another step we are taking this year on our way to a better future is to switch to the DHL GoGreen delivery service. In the future, we will use this service to deliver our goods in a climate-friendly and CO2-neutral manner.

Additionally we will change our packaging materials to easily recyclable PE-LD. The PE-LD is resource-saving in its production and can also be incinerated without producing harmful gases.
